SAFETY

Jos. Schmitt Construction Co., Inc. is committed to safety. All officers, management, supervisory personnel and employees of Jos. Schmitt are committed to safety and actively participate in meeting and exceeding this commitment.

Jos. Schmitt has put in place a safety program, the purpose of which is to provide policy and guidelines that will aid in the elimination of serious injuries and illness on all company jobsites. Prevention of injuries to our employees, customers, the public and those that visit our jobsites is the first and primary concern addressed. Our secondary concern if for our property, the property of others in our care and control, and the property of those in close proximity to our operations.

At Jos. Schmitt we recognize safety as a team effort. To that end, our safety program assigns responsibility, outlines actions to be taken, methods of reducing/eliminating losses that may result from an accident. The methods provide efficient utilization of resources for advancing the effectiveness by which the company’s projects will be completed. Therefore, there is not justification for the willful performance of unsafe acts or the taking of unnecessary risks by any member of our team.

Top management stays informed to assure that supervisors are given direction to carry out the proper safe practices and procedures to bring about compliance with the regulations set forth by OSHA.

Jos. Schmitt employs Mr. Peter Scheppmann as our full-time Safety Supervisor. Through the joint effort of Mr. Scheppmann, our insurance carrier and the AGC of Wisconsin, Jos. Schmitt continues to improve upon our safety record. This is done through weekly tool box meetings and site inspections, quarterly meetings with our employee safety council, periodic training and is encouraged by through the use of a quarterly safety bonus tied to our safety record.
