Here at Jos. Schmitt, historical restoration is not just a job but a passion. We take immense pride in the art of preserving old buildings, breathing new life into them, and ensuring that their foundation stands the test of time for future generations to admire and cherish. Historical preservation projects are close to our hearts, as we have a rich history of successfully restoring, renovating, and repurposing numerous old buildings over the years.

Historical Restoration Expertise:

We understand the unique challenges and opportunities that come with historical restoration projects. Our skilled team of field and office personnel as well as specialty subcontractors possess a deep appreciation for the architectural and cultural significance of these buildings. We are knowledgeable in the intricacies of working with aged materials, preserving historical elements, and maintaining the authenticity of the structure while incorporating modern functionality.

Our company specializes not only in historical building renovation but also in adaptive reuse. We understand the importance of preserving the past while providing modern functionality. When approaching adaptive reuse projects, we aim to strike a balance between preserving the building’s heritage and introducing functional and modern elements.

Our team has a proven track record of successfully converting aged structures into vibrant spaces. One project that we’re proud and grateful to have been a part of is the restoration of the Stefanie H. Weill Center, a performing arts center in Sheboygan, Wisconsin.

Our team at Jos. Schmitt Construction was fortunate enough to be an essential part of the restoration process back in 2001 to help bring the theater back to life as well as transition it from a motion pictures theater to a performing arts theatre. Our team handled the restoration work with a main focus on reusing and restoring existing pieces to keep the historical features pronounced while allowing the theater to be updated to today’s standards. After an ambitious five-year restoration project the restoration project returned the theater back to its original 1928 appearance as accurately as possible. Behind the scenes, the theater received all new electrical, HVAC, and plumbing systems, as well as new dressing rooms.
